Masaryk Sluices

Under the Střekov rock, visitors can pass by on the other bank of the Elbe whilst viewing the technically flawless piece of work set up between 1923 and 1936 as a way of ensuring the navigability of the river. Part of the sluices are two locks, a hydroelectric station with three Kaplan turbines vertically installed. With the facility, a differential of water levels can be achieved equalling nearly 10 meters. Part of the barrage is a fish pass. A vast bulk of the original sluices equipment has remained fully operational up to the present though initially the expected useful life thereof was 20 years. The gangway is open without restraint.
