Camera System

A project entitled “The city camera monitoring system” was established in 1996. It was financed by the Ministry of the Interior and the City of Ústí nad Labem. A total of 10 cameras had been installed in the city centre by 1998. The cost of this project amounted to a total of 4.5 million Czech koruna. The camera system monitors car parks, bus stops and all public areas where large groups of people usually gather. Some criminal offences such as breaking into vehicles and vehicle theft have practically disappeared from the monitored areas since the project was established. This system has also enabled criminal offenders to be detained in some cases or has been used to prove that they were guilty of the crime. The camera system is a highly valued tool for monitoring public order and the safety of the inhabitants of the City of Ústí nad Labem.
